We are in Svolvær. A somewhat ‘larger’ town here on the Lofoten. The parking lot in the center is full of campers, we wonder what it would be like here in high season. First a few errands and then off we go.

First we go towards Svinøya. We take the wrong path, but luckily we quickly find the right bridge. An idyllic island that used to be the center. The stockfish is hanging there to dry and it is full of authentic red houses.

In the afternoon we drive to a camper place. A very large gravel parking lot where you will find everything you need and where you can also stay overnight. The girls play outside and the shower is surprisingly nice.

The next morning we sleep in. It is cloudy and should clear up early in the afternoon. We are waiting for that because we are going to do a nice hike, Djevelporten. At the end of this hike you will find a stone wedged between two rocks. You may know the pictures. The first part is just steps. Tiring and boring, luckily it becomes climbing and scrambling afterwards. The further we walk, the colder it gets, it also becomes steeper and the wind blows harder. The other walkers have a lot of admiration for Jinte. When we reach 2/3, we decide to turn around. Jinte actually wants to continue, but the weather above is too erratic and it has to remain fun and safe.

Back at the camper, some mixed feelings that we didn’t do it all the way, but it was the right choice. We drink hot chocolate and look for a campsite where we can finally wash our bedding. We pick up a hitchhiker along the way. Mirre also hitchhiked regularly during her travels. Including from South to North New Zealand, just after she sold her camper. Nice to do this yourself and hear the stories of this hitchhiker. Nice girl, nice chat, girls impressed and we get stockfish from her. We’ll try it soon.
