Glaciers, what an impressive natural phenomenon they remain. The route there is already beautiful and we can already see it from a distance. The Svartisen Glacier.
We cross with a cute foot ferry and then take a walk of 5 km there and 5 km back. The biggest challenge is the first flat part, very boring and little shade. With a lot of imagination and some cookies we can make it. The most exciting part is the last part, there are cows on the road. Just in front of us, a family with a child in the carrier approaches us and we see that one of the cows is chasing the father with the carrier. Fortunately, the cows seem somewhat impressed by Goos, he is also impressed by them, but he knows how to keep up appearances so we can pass quietly.
Then the climb, Jinte’s eyes start to shine and we are at the top in no time. Jinte asks all kinds of questions about the ice age. Diede sits comfortably in her carrier and chats away. We don’t go all the way to the ice, it is ‘only’ a kilometer but it is one steep climb. Pieces of ice may also fall from the glacier. We still have 5 km to go back, so it’s okay. At this point we are already amazed, so blue and clear. Upstairs, Johan takes beautiful drone images while Mirre throws pebbles into a small puddle of water with the girls.

The descent is a joy, but then again that terribly boring path. Mirre tells endless stories about all kinds of things, sings her own songs with a lot of strange words and that seems to help.
When we still have 1.5 km to go, there is a restaurant, where we score two ice creams. Such an elongated stick of frozen syrup. Everybody a half ice cream. We decide to eat it while walking because then we can catch the boat, otherwise we will have to wait an hour and a half.
What a stupid idea, eating ice cream while walking. Soon Jinte puts her ice cream on the floor and it also ends up in Diede’s carrier and therefore also on her shoes and a stream of syrup runs down Johan’s leg. What a mess. No trash can anywhere, Jinte upset. She emphatically says that it is Mirre’s fault because she wanted to continue walking and ‘she just hasn’t learned how to eat ice cream like that yet’. She’s right, of course.

We pick ourselves up and can quickly laugh about it, stupid ideas are sometimes funny afterwards. Jinte on Mirre’s neck and so we walk to the boat. There is even time to buy a new ice cream and eat it while sitting down. The people we saw when hiking applauding our effort, they look in amazement at our 4-year-old who did it again, almost all by himself. We drive further along the coast, to a place to sleep.
