Well, what can we say? Rovaniemi, or Santa village. In winter the experience will certainly be different, busier too. We had to laugh about it in the summer. Santa Claus is waiting for you, he speaks a little Dutch and a little French. What coincidence! It soon turns out that nothing is a coincidence here. The children are told never to be naughty again, which Mirre and Amélie immediately refute. They are on the same wavelength when it comes to parenting. Then a photo follows, the photographer holds a hysterical beeping thing above her head. Tadaaa! She then says 10 times, look, everyone laughs… if we want the photo we have to pay 40 euros. Ha! Nice try. Not so. It’s a shame that our beautiful faces are now printed and ending up in the trash. Bye Santa.
We walk around. We laugh like crazy about the children. We see how many people write a letter to Santa Claus. Posing for a moment at the Arctic Circle and time to say goodbye. Hugs follow.
We go to Hesburger for lunch. When Mirre opens her hamburger it turns out to be a different one than Jinte has. Jinte’s does not appear to be gluten-free. She took one bite. So far she hasn’t reacted to gluten, we’ll see. Better she than Mirre, we say to each other.
We go shopping, the gluten-free selection here is enormous. Diede (a.k.a. ma Flodder) gets a doll because they keep arguing about Jinte’s doll. Unfortunately without success. Jinte now also wants that doll and this leads to a rather violent outburst. She cries, begs and stomps her feet. In the meantime, Diede is walking happily with her new doll. Fuel to the fire at Jinte. Johan loads the groceries. Mirre visits the pet shop with the girls for Goos’s food. No success. Jinte lies on the ground in misery. She wants that doll so bad. Comforting her, explaining, nothing helps. Okay, then we’ll buy her exactly the same doll. Problem solved. No kidding, of course we didn’t. The storm will pass with a little extra love.
We are going to drive towards Norway. At first we thought we would go to the Lofoten from here, but we decided to make more kilometers tonight and drive to Tromsø. Jinte has severe stomach pains along the way. She watches a movie but this provides no distraction, it keeps getting worse. Eventually she has to throw up. So sad. Mirre in tears, who secretly hoped that she would not react to gluten, then life would be just a little easier. She sits in the front seat and we drive further towards a parking lot. Whenever she has to throw up, Johan rushes forward with a container. We are impressed by how well she feels about it and how calm she remains during it.

On the way, Mirre says she sees a moose. Despite our miserable child, we decide to turn back. First things first. It is indeed a Moose! (The photo is a real search picture). All thanks to that damn burger of course. Blessing in disguise.
Jinte is exhausted and falls asleep. The throwing up stops. We drive to the parking lot for something to eat. She feels better, she says. This is evident because she devours her entire plate. Just like her mother after a gluten error.
