We’ve explored some beautiful places, met wonderful people, and are working hard on “Komt een kind bij de dokter.”
After spending a night at the taverna and enjoying some delicious kebabs, we planned to head to the garage the next day.
We said goodbye to Rob, Paula, and Floor. There were a few tears—saying farewell to lovely people is always tough. Big hugs and kisses, and who knows where we’ll meet again!
Then, the garage canceled because their mechanic had a workplace accident. Of course, very unfortunate for them. Luckily, we found another garage, though that comes with its own bit of uncertainty. We have an appointment there tomorrow.
So, we were already on our way to Athens when we got the news. That meant another night of kebabs and a quick retreat back into nature. We met up with Peter and Debbie, who also have two kids, slightly older than ours—5 and 7 years old.
Then, our LPG ran out, so we had to refuel. Turns out, we didn’t have the right adapter. Not a single gas station had it. We must have stopped at 20 different places. No LPG means no cooking, no heating, nothing. Then Mirre had a brilliant idea—drive to a campsite and see if someone there had the right adapter. And we found one! It’s amazing how trusting and kind people can be. They let us borrow it, as long as we returned it later. So grateful! Jinte quickly made an artwork as a thank-you gift. Now we just need to figure out if we have something typically Dutch to give as well… but you can probably guess we’re not giving up our old cheese, haha!
By now, it was already late afternoon. Time to head to Peter and Debbie’s.
The kids hit it off right away, and once they were in bed, we had a great time chatting. The next evening, we even played 30 Seconds. With a playground right outside, we spent a couple of amazing days together.
Then, we made our way back to Athens. First, a quick stop at a campsite to empty the dirty water tanks, refill the clean water, and charge everything up—since the cloudy, cold weather wasn’t helping our solar panels much.
We took a little detour to Ancient Corinth, had a video call with grandma on her birthday, and by lunchtime, we were heading back to Athens.
Right now, we’re parked at a secured parking lot. This morning, behind the big fence that separates this place from the outside world, there was a “market.” Just streets filled with junk. The kids were wide-eyed as we walked towards the metro.
We had an amazing day at the Hellenic Children’s Museum—a fantastic place where kids can play all kinds of role-playing games. Of course, we joined in! We laughed so much and had an absolute blast.
Tomorrow, off to the garage!
