Nafplio! What a lovely town—definitely a must-visit.
The air conditioning in the camper’s cab had been broken since day two. To fix it, we needed to go to a Fiat garage, and that required an appointment. Finally, we could go through with it—no leaks this time forcing us to cancel.
On the first day, Johan dropped Mirre and the girls off in Nafplio, then later joined us on the folding bike. That was quite an adventure—not for Johan, but for the girls.
At a small playground, we played with a little boy. Later, we found out his entire family was inside the courthouse nearby. When they came out, some of them were crying. The boy gestured with his wrists crossed—someone had been arrested. And sure enough, we saw someone being taken away. A bizarre moment. We just hope we brightened his morning a little by sharing our blueberries and playing with him.
The garage confirmed what Johan had suspected all along. They could order the parts, and they’d arrive the next day. Perfect! Johan picked up the camper so we could still sleep in it.
Two days later, we brought it back so they could start working on it first thing in the morning. By the afternoon, it was ready, and we were able to sleep in it again that night.
Meanwhile, we explored Nafplio. We visited the castle—or at least, what’s left of it. We had ice cream, delicious kebabs, and wandered through the charming streets, stopping at playgrounds here and there. Such wonderful days.
The first day was a bit chilly with the wind, but after that, we could go out without jackets and enjoy the sunshine.
Now, we’re not sure if we should say this out loud, but… it seems like everything on the camper is finally fixed. Hopefully, we can hit the road for a while without any more garage visits! 🚐✨

Our last week in Greece
Last Week in Greece – Camper Van Adventures, New Friends & the Journey to Turkey
We decided to pay a quick visit to Zampetas, the camper van store we mentioned earlier. One of our roof windows had developed cracks and, being so close, it felt like the right moment to replace it. Luckily, they were able to repair it the same day. We kept ourselves entertained browsing through the camper shop while we waited.
A Scenic Lunch Stop and a Chance Encounter
The next day, we covered quite a few kilometers. We stopped to enjoy lunch at a beautiful scenic spot, but didn’t feel comfortable staying overnight. That evening, we arrived at a small camping site and, not long after, a motorcycle with Dutch plates pulled in behind us. It turned out to be Marcel from Spijkenisse—a crazy coincidence, as we knew some of the same people.
When he walked towards the camp store, we invited him to join us for dinner. The girls instantly adored him. It’s amazing how they often take their time to warm up to people, but sometimes they connect instantly. Marcel is traveling all the way to Mongolia—a truly long journey ahead.
Beach Days and Bike Rides
We stayed at the campsite for two nights. One morning, Mirre took some time to work while Johan took the girls for a bike ride. They explored an old ruin and discovered a dead sea turtle on the beach. In the afternoon, we cherished some relaxing beach time. The girls couldn’t get enough of their bikes—especially Diede, who had completely mastered her balance bike. It’s both thrilling and terrifying to watch her confidently zoom downhill. Meanwhile, Jinte is already cycling with one hand—such a proud moment!
Our Final Stop in Greece
We continued on to our final campsite in Greece. On the way, we made stops at the local Jumbo (a Greek version of the Action store) and Lidl to stock up on essentials. Again, we stayed two nights. Our campsite neighbors were two Dutch couples—one on their way to Turkey, the other just returning from there. We shared travel tips over a morning coffee and enjoyed a bit of communal camper life.
That afternoon, heavy rain hit hard, and unfortunately, two of our windows started leaking again. It’s frustrating, but we’re hardly stressed about it anymore. Johan plans to fix the leaks properly when we reach a sunny place, using some sealant and patience.
End of a Chapter – Heading Towards Turkey
We squeezed in a visit to a local playground while Johan went for a run. It feels a bit surreal to leave Greece behind. We’ve spent more time in Greece on this trip than on our entire previous journey. Incredible!
This morning, we decided to head to Edirne in Turkey first—it’s nearby and likely a place we won’t get to visit again soon. Unfortunately, our dog Goos isn’t allowed to cross the border at our planned route, so we now have to reroute through Bulgaria. A bit of a hassle, but such is van life. First, a quick sandwich break. Part of the road ahead was flooded, so we had to detour.
Next stop: Turkey! Let the new chapter begin.
Sithonia
Sithonia: A Family Adventure on the Second Peninsula of Halkidiki
We set off for Sithonia, the second and most scenic leg of Greece’s Halkidiki peninsula. The journey is beautiful, though the winding roads prove a bit much for Diede, who luckily drifts off to sleep. Upon arrival, we check into a large family-friendly campsite. We’re free to walk around and choose our own spot. While the beachfront pitches are already taken, we’re happy to find a shaded area among the trees—especially welcome given the hot weather forecasted for the coming days.
Relaxed Camping With Kids in Sithonia
We find two spots next to each other, perfect for camping as a group. The setting is fantastic, and we’re surrounded by other Dutch families with children. Our girls quickly make friends and spend their mornings playing together before we all head to the beach. With our inflatable paddleboard (SUP) pumped up, we hit the water for some serious paddling fun—even grandpa gives it a try. What a daring guy!
One of the Dutch children at the campsite celebrates a birthday, so we join for a coffee. Jinte crafts a handmade gift, and we wrap up a clown nose as a present. Since our girls follow a gluten-free diet, we had prepared them for the possibility of missing out on cake. But to our astonishment, the birthday boy’s considerate dad visited three bakeries to find gluten-free treats just for them—such a touching gesture!
Changing Plans and Soaking Up the Simple Joys
We originally planned to move on to another location, but everything feels right here. The atmosphere is peaceful, we’ve got a great spot, and to top it off, we get the fourth night free. Our days are full of joy—quality time with the children followed by cozy evenings of board games once they’re in bed. Rinus becomes a big fan of UNO. Initially frustrated by losing, he insists on playing until he wins. His determination pays off, especially once we realize Mirre isn’t entirely clear on the game rules.
Farewells and Heartwarming Memories
We enjoy dinner at the local Greek campsite restaurant, have a barbecue one night, and on our final evening, grandma makes her signature pancakes. When departure day arrives, all the Dutch families leave at the same time. We drive together through the charming town of Nea Moudania, heading back toward Thessaloniki. After a shared lunch, we stop by a beautiful church, only to find it closed. On our way back, we encounter a stray dog followed by its pack. Thankfully, we’re prepared and keep the kids safe in the bicycle trailer while handling the situation calmly.
One Last Night Before Saying Goodbye
Our last night is spent at a motorhome parking spot where the weather turns cool and damp. We end up dining inside again, just like on our first night. But there’s a silver lining—an adorable little donkey and a pony that Diede would have loved to ride.
The next morning is filled with mixed emotions. Goodbyes never get easier. Luckily, we savor one final sunny breakfast together before heading in separate directions. We drop grandpa and grandma off at the camper dealership as they prepare to spend a few more days exploring Thessaloniki. We, on the other hand, are off to our next destination: Turkey.
With tight hugs, a few tears, and hearts full of beautiful memories, we say our farewells. Until October, dear Opi and Omi—thank you for the unforgettable family time.

Central Macedonia
Central Macedonia: A Family Road Trip Through Northern Greece
We’re heading towards Chalkidiki, the stunning peninsulas just south of Thessaloniki. It’s a bit too far to drive in one go, so Johan found a charming stopover spot a little over halfway — and what a place it is!
A Scenic Journey and a Charming Farm Stay
Our adventure begins with a wrong turn onto a narrow country road. As it turns out, we can’t turn right as the GPS suggests — so it’s reverse gear for us. Thankfully, Mirre has regained her confidence behind the wheel, cheered on by Jinte, who cheekily remarked that dads drive better than moms. We weren’t about to let that slide!
Wild camping just doesn’t feel right anymore. The risk of a €3000 fine or three months in jail sounds like a bit too much adventure. So, we opt for a cozy campsite nestled among olive trees — comfortable, safe, and still the feeling of being out in nature.
Family, Farm Life, and Greek Hospitality
Opa and Oma are already there, looking every bit the seasoned travelers. Camping isn’t new to them, which definitely helps. The campsite owner warmly invites us for a traditional Greek dinner that evening, and unsure of what to expect, we fire up our own BBQ just in case. Meanwhile, the girls, Jinte and Diede, enjoy pony rides — something Diede had been dreaming about since we arrived. Her delight? Pure gold!
An Authentic Greek Feast Under the Stars
When dinner time arrives, the entire table is filled with delicious Greek dishes: tzatziki, Greek salad, olives, gyros, and more — all lovingly cooked by Martina, the lady of the house. Everything tastes incredible, and we even manage to go for seconds. Sharing this moment of real Greek hospitality with great wine and great people is something truly special.
Panos, the owner, keeps our glasses full and every 15 minutes we hear a hearty “Yamas!” He shares with us that the three peninsulas of Chalkidiki each have their own theme: the first is for single men, the second for couples, and the third for divorced men. The third, Mount Athos, is strictly men-only and requires a special pilgrimage visa. It’s a land of monasteries and untouched nature.
Two Relaxing Days Between the Olive Trees
Like us, Rinus and Betty agree that the second peninsula, Sithonia, sounds just right. We stay two peaceful nights among the olive groves. The weather is perfect, and the kids keep busy with animals and a playground. In the evening, the whole family gets caught up in an energetic game of hide-and-seek. You’d think the girls would be ready for bed after that… but bedtime takes forever. Note to self: maybe stick to daytime games!
Farewell Treats and a Visit to Ancient Caves
Just as we’re ready to leave, a bus full of school kids arrives — chaos! Seems Panos shares our sentiment. We settle up, buy a bottle of delicious local wine, and receive a generous bag of fresh courgettes as a parting gift. Before heading deeper into Chalkidiki, we stop to explore nearby prehistoric caves.
The girls are fascinated — a human skull was found here, along with ancient animal bones including elephants and rhinoceroses. And the little train from the parking lot to the cave entrance? A definite highlight!
After a quick lunch, we’re on our way to Sithonia, the second finger of Chalkidiki — ready for the next adventure in beautiful Central Macedonia!
Mount Olympus
Exploring Mount Olympus: A Camper Van Journey from Thessaloniki
After departing from Thessaloniki, we drove towards a cozy campsite nestled near the legendary Mount Olympus. Since it was raining, we decided to make some good progress on the road. We took a quick break by the roadside for a sandwich — each in our own camper. A bit less social, but thankfully better weather was on the horizon.
Comfortable Camper Life and Pasta Dinners
With the rain clearing up, we cooked a delicious pasta meal. The extendable camper table really came in handy. With enough space to dine together as a group of six under one roof, it’s the perfect setup for this kind of weather.
A Relaxing Day in Greece with Family
The next day was all about relaxation. We enjoyed a chill day in the sun, bonding with our new travel companions. Grandma and grandpa had some time to settle into camper van life. While RV camping is new to them, traditional camping certainly is not — and it shows. They’re absolute turbo dishwashers!
Later in the day, we took a peaceful stroll along the beach, catching up and planning for the days ahead. We had originally hoped to give our grandparents the experience of wild camping, but we’re still deciding if we’re up for the adventure.
Reflections and Road Trip Moments
By the way, Johan was due for a haircut. What do you think of the result?
Hiking to a Waterfall at Mount Olympus
On Sunday, we packed our belongings and made our way closer to Mount Olympus. Luckily, the drive wasn’t far, so we took it easy. That afternoon, we embarked on a beautiful hike toward a waterfall. Although most of the trails were closed, we still enjoyed a simple route — sometimes that’s just what you need.
The view was absolutely stunning. We’re constantly amazed by just how vibrant and green Greece is during this time of year. Traveling by camper van really gives us the freedom to explore these natural wonders at our own pace.
Plan Your Camper Trip to Mount Olympus
If you’re considering a Greece road trip or camper van adventure, Mount Olympus is a must-visit destination with breathtaking landscapes and relaxing campsites. Whether you’re traveling with family or exploring solo, you’ll find that nature, history, and comfort come together perfectly in this Greek gem.
Vergina
Exploring Vergina: A Family Adventure to the Royal Tombs
After a fun morning hike, we decided to have a quick sandwich in our camper. We had originally planned to eat out, but the local restaurant was expecting a group of 100 guests. Thankfully, they warned us that service would be slow, so we opted for a more relaxed lunch instead. Time to head towards historic Vergina!
Family Road Trip to Vergina
We organized an exciting road trip with grandpa and grandma to explore a variety of cultural highlights, with our next stop being the Royal Tombs of Vergina in Greece. Upon arriving at the camper site, the friendly hostess informed us that today’s museum entry is free—usually €20 per person—and it stays open until 8:00 PM. An easy decision: we’re going today!
Discovering the Royal Tombs
The entrance to the museum is built into a hill, and as we stepped inside, our eyes needed a moment to adjust to the darkness. With safety in mind, we made sure Diede and Jinte were wearing their bracelets displaying their names and our phone number, as it’s really quite dark inside.
The experience of seeing the real Macedonian tombs was powerful and impressive. Unfortunately, we couldn’t go inside them, so we all agreed to return at night for another look at this remarkable site.
Dining in the Evening Sun
For dinner, we found a lovely restaurant with an outdoor terrace still bathed in the warm evening sunshine. The waitress’s daughter also has celiac disease, so we felt confident that our dietary needs would be well taken care of. Diede and the girl had fun playing together—two cool gluten-free kids bonding over shared experiences.
It ended on a less cheerful note when Diede wasn’t allowed to play with the girl’s slime toy. The mother generously said Diede could keep it, but Mirre thought otherwise, which made Diede a bit sad. Luckily, the girl gave her a whistle as a parting gift, which brightened her mood—although perhaps not ours, haha!
Evening Fun at the Camper Site
Back at the camper site, Jinte and Mirre got active with a quick workout. The kids also invented a new game: hiding and finding ice cream wrappers in grandpa’s shirt. We ended the day with a fun round of hide-and-seek involving everyone before tucking the kids into bed.
To wind down, we enjoyed a relaxing game of Qwixx. Despite the great day filled with fun and adventure, we took surprisingly few photos—just too busy enjoying quality family time.
Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki: Camper Van Adventures, Stray Dogs, and Family Reunions
We arrive at a motorhome parking area, uncertain of what to expect. The reviews on the Park4Night (P4N) app were mixed. A friendly German woman is temporarily taking care of the place, and three large sheepdogs roam freely across the property. We quickly realize: this isn’t quite our type of place.
Despite the dogs, Johan bravely takes Goos for a walk, relying on the info from P4N that the dogs are friendly and playful. Mirre, Jinte, and Diede anxiously watch from the RV. The dogs rush at Goos, barking loudly—whether they’re playful or aggressive is unclear.
Luckily, some German campers manage to hold the dogs back while Johan slips outside the gate with Goos. A few hundred meters away, we spot more trouble: stray dogs. Around certain Greek cities, this really is a serious issue. Fortunately, this group seems calm—just napping. Goos is easily satisfied, so we get him back in quickly.
Later that evening, when it’s time for Goos’ last walk, Mirre plays lookout while Johan quickly sneaks Goos behind the RV. It’s a trying situation for all of us. The next morning, the property’s owner is back and gives us a thorough briefing before driving us to the city.
Exploring Thessaloniki: A Beautiful Chaos
She has maps with all the main attractions of Thessaloniki, and for a small fee, she’ll drop you off. It’s all a bit chaotic, yet well-intended. We go with the flow and end up having a wonderful day in Thessaloniki. The city is lively, full of character, and totally worth exploring. We return to the camper late, relieved to spend less time at the parking area. The girls don’t enjoy it anyway—there’s dog and cat poop everywhere, and after the incident, their nerves are shot.
Now, if we want to take Goos outside, we must message the owner, who then brings Leon and his dog friends inside. The next morning, we pack up and decide to spend our final night at the beach. But first, a quick peek inside our neighbor’s 4×4 and even a little rooftop adventure—the girls love it!
Detour & Beachside Bliss
Remember our earlier road trip mishap involving a leaky camper? We were heading to a garage in Thessaloniki but were turned away after hours of driving. Eventually, we ended up in Athens for repairs. Now that we’re back in the area, we swing by a camping store. We score a brand-new frying pan and are tempted by the vast selection, but we’re content with our setup.
Back at the beach, a kind German man lets us know that while we can’t park on the paved area, camping along the road is fine. We enjoy a relaxing beach day. Mirre works a few hours, makes fresh fudge, and after dinner, we park the camper properly. Mirre takes a long walk while calling her friend, and Johan tucks the girls in for bed.
Surprise Police Visit & Fighting a Camper Van Fine
The next day is special—Grandma and Grandpa are arriving! The girls are beyond excited, especially Jinte, who plans to teach them everything about van life.
Just as we’re enjoying our banana pancakes, the police show up at the camper next door. And yes—it’s about that rumored new law we’ve heard murmurs of, which now seems to be actively enforced. The officer is genuinely friendly and admits he doesn’t want to give us a ticket, as we’re not disturbing anyone. Unfortunately, a local made a complaint which mandates enforcement.
He kindly explains where the police station is so we can appeal. Mirre and Diede go—smart choice. Inside, it’s a back-and-forth process, but the officer is helpful. He helpsMirre draft a formal objection. She doesn’t need to pay immediately, so they head out. We’ll hear via phone or email whether the fine stands. From now on, Mirre won’t be opening messages from Greek phone numbers—or checking her spam folder, ha!
Fingers crossed our appeal is successful. We’ll find out when we cross into Turkey—for now, it’s time to rush to the airport!
Joyful Reunion & Ready for New Adventures
We mistakenly wait at the wrong arrival hall, but quickly correct our course. And there they are—Grandma and Grandpa! Warm hugs all around, and even a tearful moment from Grandpa (now we know where Johan gets it from). The camper becomes their home for the next 10 days.
Once we’ve explained the basics and done a test ride, we hit the road again. It rains the entire day, but that’s okay—it’s the last rain we expect for days. It’s time for 10 glorious days of camping in the sun with the “Kusmussen”.
Kastoria
Kastoria: A Magical Stop on Our Greece Road Trip
We first heard about the charming town of Kastoria while on the ferry from Ancona to Patras. The tip stayed with us, and we promised ourselves we would definitely visit. And here we are—finally! It’s always such a surreal moment when plans made long ago suddenly become reality.
Driving to Kastoria: Bear Warnings and Serene Views
On the way to Kastoria, we noticed signs warning about bears. We’d certainly prefer spotting them safely from the road rather than encountering them up close in the wild. As we approached, the scenery transformed into a picture-perfect landscape—truly a picturesque town nestled beside a tranquil lake.
After a full day on the road, we took a leisurely stroll in the late afternoon sun along the lakeside boulevard. To our surprise, we spotted snakes basking in the sun on the stone walls by the water. The local street dogs, after our recent adventure, made us a bit tense at first, but fortunately, they were calm and friendly—a comfort that helped us slowly regain confidence.
New Friends on the Road
While walking, we struck up a conversation with two fellow Dutch travelers, Stephan and Patricia. They suggested we drive a bit further for an even better overnight spot. That evening, we parked side by side, delighted by the spontaneous companionship. They turned out to be such warm and fun people.
Our kids instantly bonded and chatted nonstop. They even helped Patricia with the dishes, tidied up the tablecloth, and showed off all their favorite tricks. It was another heartwarming moment on our family road trip through Greece.
A Peaceful Morning and a Magical Cave
For once, we woke up early the next morning. Diede has a new morning routine—gazing out the window from our bed. This time, the view was straight over the lake. “Hello duckies!” she said cheerfully. Within walking distance lies the famous Dragon Cave of Kastoria, and we decided to take a quick trip there. Exploring caves is always a fun yet slightly eerie experience.
On the way back, Jinte confessed she had been on edge the whole time, thinking the fire extinguishers inside the cave were there just in case a fire-breathing dragon appeared. Although she knew dragons aren’t real, it’s fun to imagine!
Onward to Thessaloniki and Future Adventures
After our visit to the cave, we waved goodbye to our kind neighbors and continued our journey toward Thessaloniki. On the way, we encountered something we hadn’t seen in a while—rain. We’re excited to explore Thessaloniki the next day.
This Friday, Johan’s parents will join us! They’ve rented a camper and will be traveling with us for nine days. We can’t wait to share this journey with them—more adventures, more memories, and more quality time with family.
Stay tuned as we continue exploring the beautiful landscapes, vibrant cities, and hidden gems of Greece!
Vikos kloof
Adventure in the Vikos Gorge: A Breathtaking Hike and an Unforgettable Encounter
The Vikos Gorge had been high on our travel bucket list for a while. In the charming village of Monodendri, we parked our camper at a relatively high altitude to prepare for a stunning 7-kilometer hike the next day. We’d already heard from several hikers that the trail was quite manageable and offered spectacular views.
The next morning, we were ready and excited. Our backpacks were packed. Diede was in the carrier, and Jinte was ready to hike, climb and scramble — completely in her element. Halfway through our hike, however, the mood quickly changed.
A Frightening Encounter on the Trail
While descending a less-traveled path, we heard distant bells — likely from a herd of sheep or goats. Moments later, aggressive barking followed, and suddenly, four enormous Greek shepherd dogs appeared behind us. These were no border collies — more like a cross between a lion and a wolf. Google them, and you’ll understand.
Our dog, Goos, was off-leash, but Johan quickly secured him. With Diede on his back and Goos pressed protectively by his side, Johan stood slightly apart from Mirre and Jinte. At first, the dogs didn’t seem to notice Goos and instead zeroed in on Mirre and Jinte, growing and barking menacingly. It was absolutely terrifying.
I attempted to walk forward with Jinte, but that only provoked the lead dog, who came closer — close enough for us to literally count his teeth. Jinte screamed and cried; Mirre shouted at the dogs to go away. Eventually, they backed off. Just to be safe, we picked up a rock and a stick, which turned out to be a wise move.
As we regained our composure, the dogs returned. This time, they noticed Goos. Our sweet dog stood frozen, as if sensing the danger. Once again, the dogs targeted Mirre and Jinte. Mirre raised the rock with determination and shouted. It worked. As the dogs slowly retreated, she asked Johan if she should actually throw the rock — but it was clear that would only escalate things.
We took a few minutes to calm down, hearts pounding wildly. This turned into a teachable moment about stress responses and how each person handles fear differently. From that point on, we kept looking nervously over our shoulders for the rest of the hike.
A View That Made It All Worthwhile
Eventually, we reached our destination — and it was absolutely breathtaking. Jinte’s jaw dropped at the incredible view. Diede, sleeping soundly, missed it but would hopefully enjoy the memories through our stories and photos.
We savored our lunch by the cliffside with a view that’s hard to describe — picturesque and unbelievably serene. For the return journey, we played it safe and took the paved road halfway back. None of us wanted another encounter with those guard dogs. Once we felt safe, we switched back to the hiking trail. To our surprise, we even found the tiny bouquet we had made earlier, still resting in the same puddle where we had left it.
Winding Down and Reflecting
Back at the village, we collapsed on a terrace for well-deserved refreshments. The girls enjoyed ice cream while we relaxed. Mirre whipped up a quick pasta dinner, and the girls applied makeup, then played with some German kids from the campsite. Soon, it was bedtime. Johan put the girls to bed while Mirre went for a quiet walk and called her sister-in-law. That night, the girls slept fast but tossed and turned — clearly dreaming about the day’s adventures.
Mother’s Day in Monodendri
The next morning was Mother’s Day. The girls showered Mirre with hugs, a wooden honey dipper, and a charming bracelet. A surprise breakfast was waiting, filled with love and thoughtfulness.
We strolled toward the village monastery, enjoying another mesmerizing view. Inside the chapel, we lit a candle to honor the miscarriages we’ve experienced. A warm family hug followed, reminding us of how truly blessed we are with our two beautiful daughters.
Change of Plans: Off to the River
Our plan was to head toward Kastoria, but Diede wasn’t feeling well. She complained of tummy aches and had even vomited suddenly a few days prior. Concerned, we decided to change plans and stay in the valley.
The area featured a stunning river known for rafting — an exciting sight to watch. The kids played while we took the chance to work and exercise. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, all things considered. What a family adventure this was!
Ioannina
Ioannina: Discovering a Vibrant Greek Student City
Ioannina is truly a lively student city in Greece, full of charm and a relaxed ambiance. We were lucky to find a perfect spot to park our camper, located right next to a small park and within walking distance of the city center. It’s a cozy area, ideal for families traveling with children.
A Stroll Through the City and the Historic Fortress
We started our visit with a refreshing walk around the neighborhood, stopping by a local playground for the kids. The next morning, we explored the perimeter of the famous Ioannina Fortress before entering the historic complex. The experience of walking through the old fortress city felt surprisingly comforting—like coming home. The ancient atmosphere and preserved architecture added a magical touch to our morning.
Visiting a Mosque: A Moment of Reflection
During our exploration, we visited a centuries-old mosque. We were both astonished by how few mosques we had visited before and how little we actually knew about Islam. It turned out to be a powerful educational moment for all of us. Thanks to the informational signs around the site, and some assistance from ChatGPT, we were able to answer all of our daughter Jinte’s curious questions. It became a truly educational and meaningful day for the entire family.
Unexpected Adventures: A Shoe Hunt and Happy Kids
Back at the camper, Johan realized his shoes had finally given up. Remembering a frustrating shoe-shopping experience in Athens, we opted for a straightforward solution this time: go to Intersport and buy a new pair. Quick and hassle-free! Mission accomplished with a fresh pair of trendy sneakers.
Near our camper, we discovered a unique feature seen in various parts of Greece: a children’s traffic park. Our youngest, Jinte, had the time of her life zooming around the mini roads with a local Greek boy. Mirre suspected the boy might be autistic, which made the shared joy between the kids even more special. Meanwhile, Diede was a bit upset about not having a scooter or a proper bike with pedals—a tough life at four!
Bike Issues and Final Preparations
Unfortunately, the new pedal for our family bike, brought all the way from the Netherlands by Grandpa and Grandma, didn’t fit quite right. A minor setback. Thankfully, Jinte’s doll seat fit just fine, so we made the most of it. We squeezed in a quick family workout and lunch before setting out for our next destination.
Next Stop: The Majestic Vikos Gorge
Our journey continues as we head toward Vikos Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world. This natural wonder promises breathtaking views and unforgettable hikes. Stay tuned as we explore one of Greece’s hidden gems.
Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with friends, or with your family, Ioannina offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and playful discoveries that make it a must-visit destination in northern Greece!
Parga Municipality
Exploring the Beauty of Parga Municipality
With a clean and well-stocked camper, we’re back on the road again. Grandpa and grandma’s suitcase was packed full of everything—from new sandals to aged Dutch cheese. Last week, we gave the camper a much-needed deep clean, including washing the bedding and the couch covers. Now, everything feels fresh and ready for our next adventure.
Easy Travels and Fresh Beginnings
Fortunately, we don’t have to drive far today. We figured that was best, especially after the emotional goodbye with grandma and grandpa—we expected a tough day but it turned out better than anticipated. The girls are a bit quiet and keeping to themselves, which isn’t surprising after such an exciting week. They probably need some time to recharge… just like their grandparents, no doubt!
Back to Our Mobile Home by the Beach
Staying in a house was lovely, but there’s something special about returning to our own cozy camper. We’ve found a beautiful free spot near a beach, and within an hour, all evidence of our deep clean has vanished thanks to the kids’ activities!
Sunshine, Sea, and Family Fun
Although rain was in the forecast, we’re lucky to be enjoying bright sunshine. It’s so warm and pleasant that we decide to go for a swim. The sea water is actually warmer than the pool at the house! Jinte and Mirre set out snorkeling—an exciting first for Jinte in the sea. We even spotted three different kinds of fish! It’s moments like these that convince us to stay an extra day.
Later, Mirre takes a long walk while chatting with a friend on the phone. Afterwards, we all plunge into the ocean together. Jinte even musters up the courage to practice swimming without her floaties!
Charming Local Scenes in Parga Municipality
Every morning, a herd of sheep and goats passes by our camper, and returns again in the late afternoon. It’s such a charming sight! They’re kept in a little stable just down the path.
One aspect that continues to surprise us is how the locals handle waste. Despite the presence of trash bins, litter often surrounds the small farms, which stands out amid the beautiful landscape.
Filming Memories for Family Back Home
We recorded a short video near the goats for our nephew’s first birthday. Remember him? Jinte and Mirre flew out to visit him last year from Slovenia. Back then, we never imagined we’d still be traveling a year later—though it was always a dream. Lucky us!
This time in Parga Municipality has brought us so many unexpected joys and unforgettable family moments. Whether it’s the serenity of the beach, the thrill of discovering marine life, or simply watching the goats wander by, we’re soaking in every bit of it.
Conclusion: Camper Life in Parga Municipality
If you’re planning a trip to Greece, don’t overlook the charm of Parga Municipality. From seaside camping spots and unique wildlife experiences to intimate family adventures, this region has it all. Whether you stay for a day or for weeks, the warmth of the sun and the wonder of nature will leave a lasting impression.
