Do you know that couple from Brielle who thought they’d give their camper an upgrade? After all, it was already at the garage to fix yet another leak, so why not go for a bigger battery and new solar panels as well?
But just when they thought everything was finally fixed, water started pouring in through the cable of the new solar panel. Back to Athens again.
You couldn’t make this up!
The morning after our lovely museum visit, we took the camper to the garage. We also removed the old safe to make space for the bigger battery.
This time, we took the bus to a different apartment. In the last one, the girls had been jumping on the bed, making it creak like an old pirate ship. We weren’t going back there.
We found a nice apartment in the center of Athens, with a huge TV—something the girls especially loved. That evening, we grabbed a delicious pizza.
The next day, we went out exploring. First, we headed to a lovely park. At the entrance of Zappeion Park, there’s a large temple-like building. A constant stream of expensive cars and important people came and went. We soon realized that today was the lighting of the Paralympic flame—a big event!
Lunch at a gluten-free bakery was absolutely delicious. On the way back to the apartment, we picked up two new sunglasses for the girls. Look at them shine!
We decided to stay in Athens for one more night, in consultation with the garage. Otherwise, we would have had to pick up the camper at 5:00 PM—not ideal. Better to wait until the next morning. So, an extra day in Athens! Johan got new shoes, and we treated ourselves to some very expensive ice cream. Time to get out of here.
We took the bus back to the camper, but Goos wasn’t allowed on this time. So Johan had to walk an hour and a half—at least Goos got a good workout!
Camper picked up, everything looked good. We headed back toward the Peloponnese and found a lovely free camping spot. That night, it rained immediately. And when Johan stepped out of the camper in the morning… the water started flowing inside.
Now, Johan isn’t a 10-ton truck, but apparently, that little bit of weight was enough to shift the water on the roof—right into the cable of the new solar panel. Cue lots of swearing.
We were actually supposed to go to a Fiat garage that day because the air conditioning in the cab had been broken for a while. But we postponed the appointment and, instead, made yet another trip back to Athens.
Luckily, they could fix it right away! The only catch—it had to dry for three days. They sealed it up, and we headed to a campsite to relax and hope for plenty of sunshine.
The next day was beautifully sunny. We visited Mycenae, an incredible archaeological site. Jinte was especially fascinated, imagining what life must have been like here in ancient times.
We stayed four nights at the campsite. What a great spot! We did laundry, relaxed, baked, and worked.
One rainy day, we ventured out to Lidl. What an adventure that turned out to be—one broken pedal, a fallen chain, and a lot of mud. Luckily, our little folding bike got us all back to the camper. A quick rinse of the bikes, showers for everyone, and time to relax.
Yesterday morning, Johan dropped us off in Nafplion before taking the camper to the garage six kilometers away.
More on that later! 🚐
