Rovaniemi (part 2)
A visit to Santa village is humorous, with language barriers and expensive photos. A mix-up at a restaurant results in a gluten reaction, causing distress and a change of travel plans.
Rovaniemi (part 1)
We encounter a closed spot but discover a beautiful one nearby. Enjoying a pleasant evening with good company, Jinte plays comfortably with a non-English speaking child. Later, we learn about gluten-free diets and embark on a journey to Rovaniemi.
Ranua Zoo
A visit to a winter zoo with unusual animals and closed restaurants. Meeting a French family traveling in an older camper, and sighting reindeer.
Oulu
A city with few pictures, but plenty of gluten-free options. Enjoyed delicious cakes, explored a market, and tried a novel pizza ordering device. Uncertain about next destination, considering Rovaniemi or polar border.
Utajarvi
Our stop on the way to Oulu had a beautiful view of a lake, making it worth sharing.
Koli National Park
A bumpy road causes a rear wheel to get stuck, but Johan calmly maneuvers the car out. We enjoy a warm lunch, visit Koli National Park, and drive towards Oulu the next day.
Petkeljärven
The day includes a challenging hike, a watermelon bargain, and a head injury. Despite the injury, the Diede seems fine. There are also interactions with Dutch neighbors.
Parikkala
The journey to eastern Finland surprises with beauty and tranquility. A lakeside campsite offers serene moments and family fun, creating lasting memories before heading to a national park.
Kerimäki
We visit Olavinlinna, where Johan dreams of owning a castle. We explore, play, and learn about the area. We spend the night by a lake and visit a wooden church.
Mikkeli
A delightful day at the campsite by the lake with a smoked salmon sandwich. Enjoyed golfing, lasagna dinner, and nature. Ending the day with reading.
Nurmijarvi
The campsite offers a warm welcome despite language barriers. The dedicated hosts and fantastic lake make for a relaxing stay. The highlight is the playground, keeping the kids entertained.
